The weather in NC was 60 degrees and sunny during the day so the riding really sucked. It was like mudding more than snowboarding really. Myself, Eric and Mike went to Catalochee for Eric’s big 29 with the idea that we would ride and party….well we rode a little and party’d more. The place to stay for sure is Stony Creek Motel. It’s only $50 and jesus himself would stay there it’s so nice. We killed about 2 cases of beer and we wore our goggles the whole time. The world looks better through Oakley goggles. It’s no NZ but hell at least I got out of Atlanta for a weekend.

Jetboating has been the most “extreme” thing we have done so far. We are flying along at 30mph on a 12 seater about 6 inches from soaring cliffs, doing slalom turns around trees, rocks, and stumps emerging from the water, and doing 360 spins milimeters away from rock walls and the edges of hydroelectric dams. You basically fly around with the driver scaring the ever living hell out of you as you are certain the driver has miscalculated the deminsions of his boat as you head straight into various obstacles at top speed, pulling away at the last second before impact, until you end up at a beautiful waterfall, which you then drive virtually under. I wish I could have brought my camera along, but I did not want to risk killing it.
Here is a shot of the falls themselves I took from land, and I have some action shots that we bought that I will post once I get them downloaded.

Its Christmas Day here in New Zealand. Happy Birthday baby Jesus. I was going through my pictures of my trip so far and found this one from Venice Beach. Im pretty sure this guy has been in commercials and what not, and the past three times I have been to Venice I have seen him cruising around on rollerskates playing guitar He is everywhere and looks like he was born in a manger, just like a certain birthday boy I know. I suspect his mother was not a virgin however.
Speaking of Christmas, there is nothing I would love more than a case of Fat Tire. They have a new winter label. Im digging it.
Im about to go open presents and will try to have more pics when I get back.

I literally woke up this morning, walked out onto the back deck, and snapped this shot. The landscapes here are stunning. Yes, that is a volcano in the background of the lake. A live one.
As you can probably tell, we made it New Zealand. Its tomorrow here, and its raining, so plan accordingly. Here is a brief rundown of my trip so far. First, my new Canon 5d Mark II did arrive shortly before I left ATL. I was so pumped. So, there is no excuse not to have a daily photo update, which I plan on doing. We flew to LA last Friday, and bumped around Malibu and Venice Beach. I had one of my favorite beers – Fat Tire, which as you know is impossible to buy east of the Mississippi. I hit up Rouge Status for some fresh tshirts and a hoodie before jumping on a plan Saturday night bound for Auckland, NZ. Here is the crazy part, we left at 7.30pm Saturday night from LA. We flew for 12 hours straight. But when we landed, it was Monday morning. I didnt know they made jets that fly into the future, but clearly they do. Its hell on the internal clock, but I am getting it figured out.
So, Monday (thats Sunday night to you), we spent a lot of the day traveling to our home base, Rotorua and catching up with old friends and family. We took a cool little hike to some natural springs. That night, we hit the town for my brother inlaw’s birthday. If you ever have the opportunity to celebrate a Kiwi’s birthday in their hometown – run. It gets ugly and it gets ugly quick. Thinking about the sheer number of rounds of pints and shots of Jamison whiskey still makes my head spin. I have no recollection of the last three Jaeger Bombs I ordered. Apparently when we left the bar at closing time, we both unintentionally knocked over our barstools. Epic.
Yesterday was spent doing some last minute Christmas shopping, hiking through the prehistoric bush around Blue Lake, and drinking delicious New Zealand wine. Today we are heading to Taupo for a jet boat ride, Friday we are swimming with dolphins (and maybe Orcas). Check back tomorrow to see what Santa brought me. Im really hopping for a Hobbit.

So I am SUPER pumped for ODB and his new Camera! It’s always good when the pressure isn’t on you to take good photos….now ODB can be that guy. The only downfall is never seeing any images that they take…hint hint. I can’t imagine the number of GIGS he is sitting on that nobody but him has seen. So John told me he just bought the vertical grip for his new camera…all he needs to buy now is the rest of it because this is what it looks like now.
I’m sure he is saving money to get the rest of it for his trip to NZ.
Hey ODB does it do Multiple Exposures? I was shooting in my office to see what it would be like if I worked in the Matrix with Multiple Screens.
